Habitat for humanity
Habitat for humanity is a project which involves people volunteering to work on a house and helping build it.
Habitat for humanity also helps families build houses, anyone can volunteer to help or fundraise.
‘Habitat for humanity New Zealand is a Christian non-profit organisation that works in
partnership with people of goodwill and families in housing need, to eliminate sub-standard
housing by building, renovating and selling simple, decent houses on an affordable basis’
Says the Habitat for Humanity.
The Habitat for Humanity site does not state who set up the non-profit project.
The need behind the project was giving families somewhere decent to live, the outcomes were highly
positive and were a huge success, so far Habitat for Humanity has given 345 families in New Zealand their own homes.
The need in New Zealand for Habitat for Humanity was that, in April 2007 a report was released by the Child
poverty action group stating that “in 2004 there were about 185,000 children in benefit families with some
degree of hardship, so someone decided that they would start Habitat for Humanity to help families in need of a house.
